As Oregon’s first city, Oregon City has drawn tourists and visitors from far and wide for more than 190 years.
On Dec. 18, the Oregon City Commission voted unanimously to form a new nonprofit Destination Management/Marketing Organization (DMMO) to develop tourism and promotion opportunities for the city.
The DMMO will consist of five to seven residents representing the following segments of the City’s tourism industries: lodging, retail, craft beverage, river-based, restaurant, outdoor recreation, historic sites and agritourism.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15 and available online at https://www.orcity.org/FormCenter/Economic-Development-19/Destination-OC-Board-of-Directors-Applic-134.
“As the first incorporated city west of the Rockies and the End of the Oregon Trail, the community has long been an interesting destination for those interested in early history of the country, and even earlier history of the many indigenous tribes that lived in the area centuries prior,” the city said in a press release.
The full City Commission will interview applicants who meet the qualifications before it formally votes on appointments to the DMMO board.
